SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA FROM THE FIELD®” CROP REPORT 09/28/2016
The calendar says fall has begun and so do the crops. We are officially fully into soybean harvest. Also, some wet corn has started coming out of fields at 20 to 18%. This fall, check your fields as you are deciding where to go next. With the warm summer temperatures, stalk integrity issues are showing up. The push test or pinch test can be done to look for stalk rots. Either push the plant over to the next row to see if it buckles or pinch it between the lower nodes, you shouldn’t be able to squeeze the stalk. If your fields are showing signs of stalk rots, you want to consider taking them out early.
