Joe Roberts’ State Fair Apple Pie

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • ½ c. unsalted butter
  • 3 T. flour
  • ¼ c. apple juice
  • ½ c. white sugar
  • ½ c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 apples of your choice (I use Braeburn)

Instructions

Directions:

  1. Prepare pie crust.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°.
  3. Cut up apples and toss in lemon juice to prevent browning.
  4. Melt butter in large saucepan; stir in flour to create a paste.
  5. Add apple juice, white sugar and brown sugar; bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce temperature and let simmer for 2 minutes.
  7. Add vanilla and cinnamon.
  8. Remove from heat; add apples.
  9. Pour mixture into pie crust and cover with a top crust if you want
  10. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes; reduce temperature to 350° and bake another 45 minutes.
