Join us in celebrating Franklin County’s rich agricultural history and supporting the next generation of farmers who will keep your family’s traditions alive. As a fundraiser for the Franklin County 4-H Permanent Endowment for scholarships, we're supporting two initiatives to help the foundation raise funds. Find out below how you can help promote higher education amongst youth in agriculture.
By donating grain, you can provide opportunities for Franklin County 4-Her's— plus you can save on self employment tax, federal income tax and state income tax. Making a difference to Franklin County 4-H members is as easy as 1-2-3!
Note: To qualify for the highest tax savings, crops must be donated from the previous tax year. Gifts of grain grown in the current year are welcome, but do not incur the same tax advantages. For complete program information, download this flyer or contact Franklin County Youth Coordinator Jackie Dohlman at jackied@iastate.edu or by phone at 641-456-4811.
Led by Latham Hi-Tech Seeds' own Shannon Latham, the Franklin County 4-H Foundation is writing a book to pay tribute to those families who have literally made history in our county. The final product will be a “coffee table” book that beautifully illustrates the stories of farm families who shaped our county’s past and will continue to play an important role in shaping its future. All profits from this “group-sourced book” will benefit the Franklin County 4-H Permanent Endowment in support of scholarships for youth from Franklin County who are pursuing higher education.
You can help by sharing your family’s story – and old-time family photos – with us. You may share your story in memory of family members or in honor of loved ones, too. Complete and submit this attached contributor form. A $100 contribution gets your family’s story published in the book. A donation of $250 gets your story published plus you’ll receive a complimentary photo of the current generation who’s farming the land. Additional donor levels and benefits follow:

We hope you’ll join us as we document more than 100 years of history and also support the 4-H organization, which has been helping develop youth for more than 100 years. Just as it did when the program began, 4-H helps its members develop life skills including the 5 C’s: confidence, competence, connection, caring and character. 4-H programs and events help young people learn to use critical thinking, leadership, communication and social skills – skills that will give them a competitive edge.
Your help is needed to “Preserve the Past. Celebrate the Future.” We look forward to hearing your family’s story.
