Summer 2010 Agronomy Sales Internship with Latham Hi-Tech Seeds
Job Description: Primary duties of Agronomy Sales Intern is to maintain research sites, including Latham® Super Strips, showcase plots and on-farm trials primarily in North Central and Central Iowa. Candidate will aide in organizing and summarizing data from these trials and other research plots. In addition, Candidate will need to be knowledgeable about the seed products featured in these plots and to provide sales support for activities in his/her assigned area.

This position will compliment the Candidate’s formal education by experiencing a broad overview of opportunities in the seed industry. He/she will develop stronger interpersonal and communication skills while working closely with research, sales, marketing and customers. He/she will gain hands-on experience with independently managing time and priorities, as well as making decisions to meet agreed upon goals.


One of the advantages of working with an independent, family-owned, regional seed company is that Candidate will have the opportunity to be involved with all aspects of the business from production through management.  Candidate will have one-on-one contact with Management Team members.  Candidate will also have the opportunity to attend company-sponsored meetings and training sessions.

Duties/Responsibilities: Safe operation of vehicle while traveling. Collect and record data. Observe and document field management practices. Attend and assist with educational meetings. Assist with other ongoing agronomy training activities.
Our internship will include the following responsibilities:
Maintaining attractive research and showcase plots throughout Latham’s five-state marketing area.
Interviewing RSMs weekly (by Thursday) and posting “Crop Conditions” (by Friday EOD) to The Field Position blog (www.thefieldposition.com).
Prepare weekly blog on crop conditions at Latham headquarters in Alexander.  
Implementing the “Sign Your State” program.  
Raising field signs in Technology Showcase Plots, in soybean growers’ fields and particularly along the Latham Freedom Ride route and near company headquarters.
Identifying weeds and insects.
Recording agronomic crop information.
Preparing reports for selected key products.

Educational Qualifications: Enrollment in Agronomy, Agricultural Business, Agricultural Studies or related degree program. Completion of at least first year of study is required by start of intership.

Competencies and Experience Desired: Must be able to work independently. Skilled in computer use (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook). Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Superior work ethic and highly motivated. Leadership and interpersonal skills/experience desired.
